Breaking the Silence, The Life-Changing Benefits of Hearing Aids
What is hearing and how does it work? Hearing is the ability to perceive sound through the ears, which includes the detection of vibrations in the air and their conversion into electrical signals that are sent to the brain for interpretation. The ear is a complex organ with three main parts – the outer ear, middle ear, and inner ear. The outer ear consists of the visible part of the ear (pinna) and the ear canal that leads to the eardrum. As sound waves enter the ear canal, they cause the eardrum to vibrate in response. These vibrations are then transmitted to the middle ear, where three small bones (ossicles) called the hammer, anvil, and stirrup transfer the vibrations to the inner ear. The inner ear is where sound is actually processed. It contains the cochlea, a snail-shaped organ filled with fluid and thousands of hair cells. These hair cells convert the vibrations into electrical signals, which are sent to the brain via the auditory nerve. Causes and impact of hearing Loss U
