Ear Mold Fit and Feedback: What Every Hearing Aid User Should Know

 The ear mold of the hearing aid is a specially customized ear plug for the behind-the-ear hearing aid. It plays a very important role in the compensation of hearing Loss:

1. Improve the acoustic characteristics. An ear mold with reasonable design and excellent craftsmanship can improve the hearing aid effect by about 30%.

2. Prevent acoustic feedback. The ear mold establishes a closed acoustic channel between the hearing aid and the ear. The sound outside the ear mold is moderately isolated, and the sound inside the ear mold will not leak out from the external auditory canal, thus avoiding acoustic feedback (howling).

3. Fix the hearing aid. The eardrum can make the hearing aid more stable and comfortable to wear.

If the ear mold is not suitable, it needs to be replaced in time:

1. It is recommended that adults replace it once a year, and those with severe hearing loss should replace it every six months.

2. Children should replace it according to the development of the ear canal. Generally speaking, children aged 0-3 should replace it every 2-3 months; children aged 3-5 should replace it every 3-6 months; children over 5 years old should replace it every 6-12 months; When the child’s slight movement may cause the ear mold and hearing aid to fall off, it should be replaced in time; When there is sound leakage, it means that the ear mold has become small and the seal is not tight, and it should also be replaced in time.

3. If you still feel pain or discomfort despite wearing it correctly, consider that the ear mold has become larger and needs to be replaced in time.

4. If the dirt in the ear mold sound hole cannot be removed, which affects the hearing aid’s effect, it needs to be replaced in time.

5. When the deafness worsens and a higher-power hearing aid needs to be replaced, the ear mold should be replaced at the same time.

1. Wipe the ear mold with a dry and soft cloth every day and remove the dirt from the sound hole.

2. Wash it with soapy water once a week to remove grease, then dry it in a ventilated place to keep the sound tube unobstructed. Remember not to use alcohol to clean, because alcohol can dissolve the ear mold material. After cleaning with alcohol, cracks will appear on the surface of the ear mold, which will affect the sealing.

3. Shake off the water vapor and water droplets in the sound hole of the ear mold every night, and then store it in a sealed, small box with desiccant.
